Will is a 20-year-old guy with a love of sport, photography, socialising and dining out.
Born with a developmental disability, Will processes information slower than most people. Whilst he communicates with single words and short phrases, he generally understands most of what others say. He is continuing to work hard in this area as he builds and develops his verbal communication skills.
Will currently has a support team made up of university students that help with a whole range of things. They support Will at work in the city two mornings a week, assist in getting out and about in the community, help with literacy and communication and activities such as swimming training and the gym.
Will’s family and support team have been amazing at helping him develop skills and tools that assist him to live a great life. He is now looking forward to building more independence and working towards his long-term goal of moving into a place of his own. Part of this independence is looking for other work opportunities and ways to engage in the community. He would also like to develop a few more skills around the home and learn to cook meals for his family.
Will would like to cook his family a meal once a week. In order to do this, he’s looking for someone to assist with planning and cooking. The day is flexible and can fit in with a university timetable.
The role would involve:
As the team grows there could be room for more hours if you’d like to help out with other aspects of Will’s life.
You don’t need experience in disability, just a ‘can do’ attitude and a desire to help Will reach his goals.
Will is the kind of guy that is happy to try new things and give anything a go. He loves life and hopefully you do to. If you’re a whizz in the kitchen and passionate about helping people live their best life, maybe you could be a good team.
